Guidecentral Meet-up and RDS planning

Having a very busy Autumn, sewing away and planning for Christmas.
I had the pleasure of being invited to the Guidecentral Breakfast meeting in Dublin last week. My lovely friend Liga (, got up at a very early hour (6am) to start our trip. We were still gossiping three hours later. Thanks Liga for the photo too.
Here is their blogpost all about it:
Breakfast with DIYers was a Success!

I got to meet so many lovely people, including the lovely Carrie from Hamilton Bears, Rosemary Keating from Hats by Rosemarie, Maria from Crafty Shamrock and many other very talented craftspeople.

In early December I will have a stand at the RDS Christmas Craft Fair. Its a five day affair so I am planning and sewing in earnest. As its my first time doing it I am not sure what to expect. Its exciting and terrifying all at the same time! I have a number of stock I hope to have made by the end of this month and once I reach that I feel I can relax a bit.
I'm dreaming of a Pink Christmas.
A little row of the Christmas fabric dresses I'm making this year. I have yet to decide on my favourite.
Hope October is going great for you!
Take care,

Its truly Autumn when the kids are back in school...

I can't believe its September! Ah where is the year going? Smallest one is nearly two! He was dramatically distraught for two days to see his siblings return to school but has since recovered enough to wave them off in the morning. It didn't take long, bless.
I've been sewing lots of dresses and clothes this last couple of weeks and busy working on orders. There's nothing like working with lots of new fabrics! My new woven labels and sizes arrived. Next I have to sort labels and packaging. The list is endless.

Planning for Christmas is underway, excited to be using my own fabrics this year, including some of the mix on the dolls bed set below which will be for sale soon.
I finally took some pics of my son's John Dere rag bunting and I'll post a how-to very soon, a sew-free bunting!
Have a great day,

Vintage Children's Illustrations and Charity Shop Finds

I had a great time hunting for vintage treasures this week, and boy was I in luck. 1970s heaven! I came across some great vintage children's books, who could leave Bambi behind?

Then I found some fabric, I never find fabric! Luck was on my side. I'm thinking cushion covers for my planned 1970s inspired living room.

I couldn't leave this painting behind, its hanging in my studio. Its very vibrant in reality.

One of the books I found is one of those 365 days books for children, with a story or rhyme for every day of the year. It has so many different styles of illustrations.
I want to make these dresses!

Cute little story about making a blanket for a teddy!
Totally different style of illustrations, all in the same book.
I also managed to pick up some 1970s mugs and a few pcitures frames. Time to start planning for the living room makeover!
Have a great day,

Kilkenny Arts Festival and Form Pop-Up Shop

I've been sewing away very quietly for the last two weeks to prepare for the Form DesignMade in Carlow pop-up shop in Kilkenny as part of the Kilkenny Arts Festival.  Here is a little pic of my area of the shop.

We are situated on Friary Street. If you are coming from the Castle direction, go up the High Street (Main street) and just past the bookstore (and between Murphys and Pauls) you go left and we are a couple of mins up the road (you can see green bunting and Kilkenny colours outside)
There is some amazing work by my fellow Form makers ( and we are all working  in the shop on different days. I was there yesterday with natural printer and designer Catherine Sothern.
So if you are in Kilkenny or heading there for the Festival do check us out!
All the best,

My Studio Space

Its unusual to say its too hot to be outside in Ireland but today its too hot to be outside!! Lollipops & Daydreams have a stand at the RDS Christmas Craft Fair in December this year so I've started my preparations. First up was to declutter my studio from top to bottom. When I get busy I have a tendancy to put all sorts into boxes, fabric scraps in piles, pins all over the floor etc etc. So before I could even think about sewing something new a major declutter was in order. This is the after:

My favourite sewing machine, a PFaff, back from its service in Waterford this week. The glass cabinet you might remember came from a local charity shop, it stores all my buttons and favourite china. My pictures are vintage and new.
I use this rail for popping clothes on if they are finished or if I am preparing for a sale, otherwise its all stored in plastic storage boxes. A few stray Christmas decorations ended up on the end of my curtain rails. I am very lucky that the light is so great in this room, it has one narrow window and one large one. I've just moved the cutting table to the opposite side of the room to take advantage of better light. I've plans to glam up my pinboard this week! The table is a conference table from Ikea and you can adjust the height so I either stand at it to cut fabric or sit on one side on a high stool for pinning.

This is on the wall behind my table, a fabulous canvas by Clare Jordan and a map of Manhattan that I've had for fifteen years. I bought the map on my first trip to New York and the frame was from Habitat.
Of course since the pictures were taken I've begun work on my collection of clothes for Autumn/Winter so it needs a clean again! Hope you enjoyed a look around my space.

I love France!

I love France! I am still good and relaxed from my holidays, which given as it was my first proper one in 9 years (I kid you not), its no wonder I enjoyed it. We were in beautiful Brittany in France.
Here's a picture of the beautiful beach, a short walk from where we stayed. So ahhhhhh!

Here's a pic of me and the happy campers at the historic Carnac stones.

I always say no-one does chic quite like the French. Even the overgrown steps were chic!!!
We visited the picturesque city of Quimper on a day trip. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves!

I love this building above, the modern and the old together.

More photos to follow, hope you enjoyed my little snapshot of France

Carlow Made Pop-up Shop

What a busy summer it has been so far! At the start of June I was involved with the Carlow Made pop-up shop which ran alongside the Carlow Arts Festival. It was in the Carlow Shopping Centre which is the historic Old Carlow Jail Building. The building is famous for being the site of the last execution of a woman in Ireland. Here's a few pics from the shop!

I brought in two rails of clothes this time, lots of summer pretties!

I am having my summer sale on my facebook page this week,

I was lucky enough to go to France for a couple of weeks at the end of June and I've some lovely photos to show new blog post!
Have a lovely day,

First Communions and new makes

What a glorious day here in Ireland! Last weekend was my daughters First Communion. She had such a great day. And yes I cried when she was all dressed up and ready for the church. It seems like a blink of an eye since she was a baby. We had great fun beforehand getting everything ready for her party. My collection of vintage tea cups and plates was put to good use. I found an amazing shop on etsy that makes these wonderful butterfly cake toppers. They looked so pretty! My daughter choose white roses for decorating and I choose fuschias, my mom's favourite.

I had a busy month sewing too, lots of new dresses including this cute print.

I've gotten addicted to making skirts too! I had a wonderful Market Night on Facebook ( and am still overwhelmed and appreciative by all the support.  I've been working on some new fabric designs which I'll be sending off to the printers this week, very exicted!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

My website is back up again !

Happy Easter!

Another lovely sunny day in Carlow, getting used to this! School holidays are in full swing. We've been for plenty of walks, and done lots of Easter decorating. Paper chains, easter bunting, egg decorating, they are just waiting for the main event (actually eating chocolate!!)

                                             Picture from Pinterest

I have a blue theme going on this week. Along the stairs I have a collection of photo frames and I was taking them all down to clean. Then I decided to paint a few in blues and greens, really pleased with the result, a mini makeover.

I actually made a lot of cushions for the house this week, lots of Sanderson and Cath Kidston florals for the sitting room. I love changing cushions, its another  mini makeover! On the work front I finished lots of summer dresses this week,
Now that the sun is out, it doesn't seem strange to be making summer dresses! Big sale on my etsy shop,

Have a wonderful Easter and don't eat too much chocolate!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

I've finally made the leap and changed blog address, mainly as it was confusing having "mariahomedecorations" as my blog name when my business name is Lollipops and Daydreams. Just have to set up my blog list and tweak the layout and links and it'll be sorted!

It was a lovely Mother's Day here in Ireland today. Had great fun looking back through old photos
I love this one of my daughter! She was only a few months old and in her pram about to go on our morning walk. It was also one of my late father's favourite pictures so extra special.

Have a great evening,

Doe a Deer, the cuter the better!

I can't seem to escape deer's these days. They are soo cute and seem to call to me! I found this guy/gal in a local charity (thrift) shop. The deer and the little fake flowers on a patch of  fake grass (all behind glass/plastic) and placed in front of a postcard.

I am wondering if its something they used to sell at tourist stops? Anyone know where Kate Kearneys Cottage is? I am going with Sligo or Wicklow! But will of course feel embarrassed if its a very obvious landmark or well known place.

Couldn't leave him behind.  Happily sitting in my studio. He can help this guy mind the threads.

I've found some great little treasures (well treasures to me, very possibly trash to others!) in the local shops lately. A little bundle of frames just waiting to be filled with my new fabrics as a display on the wall. Found some really cute angels today which are being put aside for the impending First Communion party.
This gorgeous fabric is from Holland, now that I put the pics together, there is a definite resemblance!
Dress is available in my etsy shop (link to the side of blog). Is it just me, or are deers everywhere?
Have a great evening!

Sneak Peek at new dresses and Etsy Ireland

Hailstones and sunshine, what a funny day in Ireland! Another month flying in. Still busy working away on turning my fabric designs into a collection. I was working on co-ordinating hairbands and headscarfs today to compliment dresses. I even made one for myself which is a little unusual as I tend to only make for children or for the home (that is despite all those wonderful patterns waiting to be cut on my shelf). Here is a little sneak peak of what I've been up to!

Last month I was lucky enough to be invited to submit for a pop-up shop in Rua Red, Tallaght, Dublin. This is a picture of the window, you can spot some of Lollipops & Daydreams makes in amongst all the fab goodies. I am a huge fan of  Moobles and Toobles ( and their wonderful new organic baby range of babywear. Our shop is over now but they have a new one full of many more Irish makes, well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lollipops & Daydreams featured on the Etsy Ireland team blog, you can find the full article here.
There was three profiles featured and I loved finding out what inspires others and how they work.

Hope you are having a great weekend,

Dresses and fabrics and dresses and fabrics!

Can't believe it is crawling into March already, where is the time going? Very quickly this year! The rain and stormy weather is finally easing up and the spring flowers are out. My son helped me plant a lot of bulbs last year and has been waiting very patiently for them to bloom. There's something special about flowers that you've grown yourself!

I've been busy restocking my etsy shop ( My daughter helped model some of the dresses for me, she is very patient!

I've also been designing fabric which is sitting on my cutting table right now waiting patiently for me. My sketchbook is full of drawings so I am working on translating the ideas in my head into actual dresses. I am making the patterns so each dress is being tested on other fabric before I cut into my own fabric. Its very a very exciting process and fingers crossed it all works out! I'll be camera mad when I finish.

I have a bit of a deer thing at the moment, they are so cute! I fell in love with this fabric and made a couple of dresses from it. I also have it vibrant pink which is earmarked for little cushions.

Speaking of little cushions, I have a line of doll cushions awaiting buttons. I actually love hand sewing the little buttons on, there is something therapeutic about it!

Right time to get back to the cutting table, rest over!
Hope you have a great week,
All the best,
