Displaying collections in children's rooms

Our children have the most amazing collections of toys. They really do!

From Lego to dolls to cuddly toys to My Little Pony. Its so easy to pop them into boxes or storage containers. But a really great alternative is to use them as room decoration. I've spotted some gorgeous children's rooms online where they have managed to use toys as decorations in rooms.

The use of unusual shelves and also a dado rail lends itself to showing off the little dolls so perfectly. The addition of a stylish chair and floor cushions also adds the room. I have serious chair envy.

The next room uses a very natural wood palette, even the colours are muted tones, greys, browns, creams and beiges. Shelves are used here for display and also as a makeshift wardrobe. This has allowed the clothes themselves to also become part of the display.

Ok so we don't all have such an beautiful collection of animals and vintage toys but what a wonderful display. The shelving could also be used for any toys and keeping the colours similar makes it very easy on the eyes.

Star Wars! We have lots of them in this house and have the same Ikea wine rack for displaying LightSabers . The shelves are set at different nights and sizes, great for displaying the scene setters.

Adding the rope to the shelf makes it a feature in this room.

An eclectic mix of colours and shelving. Wooden crates, frames and plastic shelves create a very colourful display.

Another one I need to try for all those Lego figures that go missing.

Bookshelves in unusual shapes and colours make a really feature of the books and also provide a lovely contrast to the monochrome wallpaper.

Through the use of imaginative shelving and groupings, toys and books can make such a wonderful addition to the decoration of a child's room. Rather than hiding them away in a storage container and embrace them. I guarantee if you group toys together like these, they suddenly become way more attractive to the child again. I love to gather up groups of dinosaurs or cars and leave them on my littlest ones windowsill. He is instantly attracted to them!

How fab is this room? Love the skateboard shelf. Its a real mix of treasure!

Has to be the best shelf I've seen yet for kids. A piece of wood , painted and used for displaying the animal toys. The dot stickers on the wall add colour and give the shelf an extra element of fun.

Happy Decorating
